Carteret Ferry Multimodal Terminal Building

This project consists of the construction of a new 52,000 sq. ft, four-story Multimodal Ferry Terminal Building for the Borough of Carteret, serving as the centerpiece of the Carteret Intermodal Waterfront Transportation District. The facility will support ferry operations, commuter services, and waterfront commercial activities while anchoring future mixed-use development along the Arthur Kill.

The first floor will include a dedicated commuter concourse, ticketing area, and secure queuing space, along with a proposed grab-and-go commuter café and a full-service bar/lounge/restaurant fronting the waterfront. The second floor will feature leasable office space intended for commercial and municipal tenants. The third floor will house a banquet hall with an accompanying commercial kitchen and proposed meeting and event spaces. The fourth floor will include a rooftop patio, an additional kitchen, and flexible meeting/conference areas offering panoramic views of the skyline.

The building will be serviced by four state-of-the-art machine-room-less elevators and will incorporate sustainable design elements, including a green roof system. The project also includes an extension of the existing waterfront boardwalk and new public decking that will connect seamlessly to the terminal, enhancing pedestrian access and creating a continuous waterfront experience.

This project is valued at $47,500,000.00 and represents a major milestone in the Borough’s long-term vision to expand ferry service, promote economic development, and strengthen regional connectivity.
